History

The Cape Cod Cutting Board was developed in 1970 by Bob Erickson on Cape Cod.

It all began when he watched a family member attempt to open quahogs (large sea clams) for chowder. She struggled with a clam knife without success. She lacked the strength to hold the clam in place with one hand and open that stubborn clam with the other. An idea was born and off to the workshop Bob went. Being a mechanical engineer he devised a solution to the problem. The first cutting board was made from wood and an appropriate knife secured with a metal pin for the knife to pivot in a vertical motion. Bob’s idea worked and it opened the clams with ease. Soon Bob’s creation was being used to slice hard to cut vegetables. This cutting board cuts squash, carrots, potatoes, turnip, and even cheese and pepperoni you name it. Bob’s wife even uses it to chop the stems on her flower bouquets. Over the ensuing years there have been numerous changes to improve the quality, convenience, and sanitation to the Cape Cod Cutting Board including a patent for a cutting block assembly that is one of a kind. Anthony Yelapi a design specialist in the plastics industry assisted in the development of this new and improved space saving cutting board and a partnership was established.

We hope you enjoy many years of use with America’s finest cutting board.
